Major Project #3

This week i was working on an ice cube shader. After a lot of messing around with the new mantrasurface node in Houdini 11 i created a shader that did what i wanted. Make a surface look like ice. I wanted to take it a step further so i turned it to digital asset and the user is able to plug it in to any mesh he wants and make it look either like crystal or ice.

User has control over the colour of the crystal/ice , displacement scale and roughness of the shader.

Major Project #2

Hey guys this is my lime digital asset am working on. The aim is the user to create lime wedges or slices easily and the UV's are procedural aswell. So far all the modelling is working perfectly and might modify it later to create oranges and other fruits. Right now only need limes for my Mojito Advert.

As u can see the UI is simple but am adding more features to it later on.

This is how it looks when its rendered. Early Shader test but am still working on it to make it look more photorealistic

and some changes on the specular produce this

Major Project #1

Beginning of December had my VIVA week which carved my project on stone. Decided to do a drink advert, and the drink would be one of my favourite cocktails, a Mojito.

Inspiration was this two video clips

So i had to create a Limes Procedural Digital Asset, an ice shader and crasher, a way to make the pipeline of using multiple wedge ROP and Delayed loaders faster, turn L-Systems to fluids and render the whole "advert"

So far i finished the storyboards for the "advert"

A month into the project now and nearly finished the lime asset which i will be updating later on this week!

Major Project Update #1

I havent been on my blog for ages because of the huge amount of work i had from uni. This will include all the stuff I created on the last couple of months and some of my uni projects!

This is my first presentation in uni for major project! Basically is a lost of my ideas and what i was thinking of doing for major project

My second presentation was about simulating millions of particles and use them as granulation materials such as sand, and how to render it efficiently using instancing in Renderman!

Inspiration for this kind of project came from various pics i found online such as:

Early test i did using Houdini based on putting any mesh and scattering surface point and giving the melting sand effect:

Third presentation was about different types of fluids and going into detail about them in Houdini and how they are gonna be used for simulating granule materials and the combination of using CUDA

this is the video of the FLIP fluids used for granular material i found on vimeo:

Since the third presentation research i decided not to create a solver for granule material since thats one of the features of FLIP fluids in Houdini! looking for fresh ideas my fourth presentation was about procedural modelling and a bit of houdini's history

This is the digital asset I created for my 4th presentation based on Fermat's Spiral:

Talking with my supervisor tutor he gave me the idea of creating an animation so i started looking around for ideas and the fifth presentation is about what a story is and what it makes good stories successful , also talks about Theo Jansens work and Rube Goldberg machines!

Inspiration on Rube Goldberg machines is the beautiful honda advert

The sixth presentation was going into details about being a VFX supervisor and that the project i will tackle will be a story from concept art all the way to final shot! Detailing the RnD tools that have to be created for making this whole thing achievable!
